Mike Kipp | Mary Kipp

Leo Tolstoy famously observed that “everyone wants to change the world but few are interested in changing themselves”. Participant in the 2009 Watering Hole will be treated to a unique and experiential journey into the taproots of passion for creating change. It promises to be a journey on which both the landscape and the tools shift with the task at hand.

Mary and Mike Kipp, session leaders, are committed to delivering a dual focus on both the self as the instrument of change and the intractable nature of the world we want to change. In keeping with this year’s theme and Tolstoy’s sentiments, the Watering Hole’s three day progression will be from evolution thru revolution to resolution.

Kurt Lewin, a revolutionary for change, warned that if we really want to understand something we need only try to change it. Said another way, creative advocates for “different” rather than “more” need three things: a coherent theory of change; a working knowledge of the object of change (the trend, the person, the process, or the institution); and a grounded sense of self…unfinished business, fears, aspirations and fundamental proclivities.

This year’s Watering Hole will “foment revolution” in all three arenas by leveraging the collective experience of the group, the substance of the larger conference and the power of exercises created specifically for the occasion. Since 90% of us say the right thing, we will rely heavily on the arts, body work and non-verbal interventions to counterbalance the occasional “lecturette.” And you will be challenged to address a creative problem or opportunity within the context of your own vocation.

By making this trip, you will discover rich insights about your past that are full of potential for your future. If in Gandhi’s words, you truly want to “be the change you want to see” you need to come to the Watering Hole.

This program is intended for those who are not taking an Immersion or Core CPSI Program.
